SDXL family
Illustrious, NoobAI-XL, Pony V6, Animagine XL 4 and similar models all belong to the SDXL family and work as soon as you choose them. The SDXL family has the most complete feature set in CoCo: generating, refining, reference images (ControlNet) and LoRA training are all available.
One .safetensors file is a complete model; put it in checkpoints (or a folder in your main model folder categorized as main models). The VAE is included in the model, so nothing else is needed.
Recommended settings
Section titled “Recommended settings”| Item | Default |
|---|---|
| Steps | 28 |
| CFG | 5 |
| Sampler | Euler a |
| CLIP skip | Minimum 2 |
These values apply the first time you use an SDXL-family model; after that, your last settings are reused.
Quality tags
Section titled “Quality tags”The SDXL family’s default quality tags and default negative prompt:
masterpiece, best quality, amazing qualityworst quality, bad quality, worst detail, censorQuality tags are added at the start of the prompt. Different models suit different quality tags (Pony models, for example, often use tags such as score_9); you can set “Custom” ones for an individual model in its details in the asset library (see Asset library).
- By default the model’s built-in VAE decodes in bf16, which saves graphics memory and gives almost the same result as 32-bit.
- For results identical to 32-bit, turn on ⚙ Settings → Generate → Quality → 32-bit VAE (about 5 GB more graphics memory per image).
- You can also choose another VAE, such as fp16-fix, in the generate panel’s “VAE” slot.
V-Pred models
Section titled “V-Pred models”V-Pred models such as NoobAI-XL V-Pred work as soon as you choose them. CoCo recognises them from the model file and switches to the matching method automatically, which stays in effect when you change sampler or scheduler.
- Official recommendation: Euler, CFG 4–5, 28–35 steps.
- Samplers that don’t suit V-Pred (LMS, Heun, DPM2, DPM++ SDE, DEIS, SA-Solver) switch to Euler automatically; the generation log explains this and the image’s parameters record the Euler actually used.
Reference images (ControlNet)
Section titled “Reference images (ControlNet)”Reference images currently support the SDXL family only; see Reference images.
Graphics memory
Section titled “Graphics memory”8 GB cards can run SDXL. If memory runs short, see Troubleshooting. With “Store the main model in fp8” on, the main model takes about half the graphics memory and images change slightly.
